It is a hydroxylated dithiane derivative. It shows phytogrowth-inhibitory and antibacterial activities.
DHDT is commonly used to protect aldehydes and ketones by converting them to thioacetals.
DHDT facilitates regioselective and stereo selective synthesis by allowing chemists to selectively protect certain carbonyl groups, thereby directing the course of reactions and controlling the stereochemistry of products.
Application
- Pharmaceutical intermediate, used in the synthesis of Lamivudine, entecitabine, etc.
